WAYNE D. KNAPP

WAYNE D. KNAPP of Watseka, IL died May 16, 2024 at the age of 93. He worked as a mobile embalmer in Europe and Africa while serving in the military. Following his discharge from the military, Knapp served as Iroquois County Coroner from 1960-1976 and was the owner and operator of Knapp Funeral Homes. A 1952 graduate of the Worsham College of Mortuary Science, he served as president of the Illinois Coroners Association in 1966 and was a 69-year member of the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, where he served as president in 1971-1972. After September 11, 2001, Knapp was asked by the National Funeral Directors Association to travel to Ground Zero in New York City and serve as a volunteer funeral director and liaison for the New York City Medical Examiner’s Office.
