STEPHEN E. CARPENTER

STEPHEN E. CARPENTER of North Providence, RI died December 26, 2013 at the age of 64. He was a fifth generation funeral director, and embalmer at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, which was established by his great grandfather, the late Rev. Hugh B. Carpenter in 1914. After the death of his grandfather, Linn M. Carpenter, in 1976, he became a partner with his uncle, H. William Carpenter, and was later elected president of the firm in 1995. He was instrumental in the family business's expansion into a second location in West Warwick in 1983 and by the opening of White Dove Cemetery in its West Warwick location in 2006. He became a Certified Crematory Operator in 2006. He was a member of the Rhode Island Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral Directors Association, and the Cremation Association of North America. He graduated from the New England Institute of Mortuary Science in 1970.
