MARGARET BEATRICE HILL STEWART of Washington, DC died June 24, 2014 at the age of 97. She worked alongside her husband, John T. Stewart Jr., in operating the Stewart Funeral Home, which his father, John T. Stewart, Sr., had established in 1900. Together, they expanded the distinguished Stewart Funeral Services legacy into a business that has served the citizens of the metropolitan area for well over 114 years. The firm is the longest continuously operating African-American family-owned business in the Washington area. She and her family established the Stewart Funeral Home Fund, which awards scholarships to students and offers emergency aid for services to help families in need. In 2006, the family established another fund, The John T. and Magaret B. Stewart Fund, to further contribute to communities in Prince George's County and the Washington area.
