L. RUPLE HARLEY, JR

L. RUPLE HARLEY, JR of Greenwood, SC died July 13, 2026 at the age of 82. A funeral director for more than 60 years, Harley joined his father, the late Lamar Ruple Harley Sr., at Harley Funeral Home and Crematory. Harley earned the Certified Funeral Service Practitioner designation from the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice and served as president of the L. Ruple Harley Sr. Educational Foundation, a scholarship established in his father’s honor that is now part of the Piedmont Technical College Foundation. In 2014, he was named the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association Piedmont Group Funeral Director of the Year. A 1964 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science, Harley served as president of the South Carolina Funeral Directors Association in 1992 and the National Funeral Directors Association in 1998.
