JOHN C. "SKEEPIE" SCARBOROUGH

JOHN C. "SKEEPIE" SCARBOROUGH III of Durham, NC died November 7, 2020 at the age of 83. A fourth-generation funeral director for over 60 years, he was CEO and president of the Scarborough & Hargett Celebration of Life Center, Inc. A graduate of the Eckels College of Mortuary Science, he was president of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association in 1982 and in 1968, he became the youngest individual ever elected as "Lay Member" by the association. Skeepie was the first African American to serve on the State of North Carolina Ambulance Board.
