JOHN J. "JACK" HIGGINS

JOHN J. "JACK" HIGGINS of Poland, OH died May 28, 2012 at the age of 81. He was a licensed funeral director, embalmer and owner of the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes. In 1958, he assisted his father in the operation of the firms, which was established in 1923 in Youngstown. After obtaining ownership of the firm, he established a new location in Austintown. He also established, Higgins Ambulance, which served the area for over thirty years. He expanded the service area of the funeral homes, establishing the Boardman-Canfield location in 1977, and the Poland chapel in 1994. He remained active in the operations of his family firm until the time of his illness. He was past president of the Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties Funeral Directors Association; past president of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, and served on com-mittees of the National Funeral Directors Association. He graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science.
