JOHN W. AMEY of Austin, TX died November 8, 2013 at the age of 76. In 1976, he purchased Wilke-Clay Funeral Home on South Congress. He worked alongside his wife, Linda for nearly 20 years as a funeral director at Wilke-Amey-Clay Funeral Home and later at Amey Funeral Home in northwest Austin. He began his career at Cook Funeral Home when the firm was located downtown. His mentors were funeral directors Martin Bloomquist and Sherman Birdwell who instilled in him the immeasurable value of integrity, dignity and service. In 1983, then Governor Mark White appointed him to a six-year term on the Texas Funeral Service Commission in recognition of his exceptional reputation as a funeral professional. He attended the University of Texas.
