JAMES POWELL HUNTER III of Lufkin, TX died October 3, 2021 at the age of 84. A licensed funeral director for over fifty-six years, he formerly owned Oakley-Metcalf in Lufkin and Cason-Monk-Metcalf in Nacogdoches. Hunter was the founder, chairman and CEO of Equity Corporation International, which merged with Service Corporation International in 1999 after trading on the NYSE. He was a former member and chairman of the Texas Funeral Service Commission.
