GEORGE BOOM JR

GEORGE BOOM JR of Sioux Falls, SD died October 22, 2026 at the age of 100. A licensed funeral director for 76 years, Boom began his career at Banton Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. In 1964, with help from his father, father-in-law and son David, he purchased a house on the east end of town. In 1983, Boom partnered with Miller Funeral Home to form Pioneer Enterprises. Over the years, they brought young people into the business as partners, eventually becoming entirely employee owned. In 2018, the company built a new, state-of-the-art funeral home. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Boom also attended South Dakota State University and Augusta College for his pre-mortuary studies. He served in every office and position of the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association, including publishing its monthly newspaper, and served on the South Dakota State Board of Funeral Service.
