DALA RUTH WHINERY

DALA RUTH WHINERY of Elk City, OK died October 21, 2015 at the age of 81. She worked alongside her husband, Alvin Lavern (A. L) Whinery as the first female licensed funeral director in western Oklahoma. In 1961, they purchased the former Scroggins Funeral Home in Sayre and continued to own and operate it as Whinery Funeral Service for the next 27 years. During this time, the funeral home obtained firms in Sentinel, Mangum, Reydon and Cheyenne, which their son Brad acquired in August of 1988.
