BENJAMIN G. “PAPA G” GARLAND

BENJAMIN G. “PAPA G” GARLAND of Albany, NY died October 11, 2023 at the age of 85. A licensed funeral director, he began working alongside his uncle, James Clifford Garland, founder of Garland Brothers Funeral Home in 1965. Benjamin became owner of the Albany and Syracuse firms in 1969 and continued to operate them until 2019, when he took a step back from daily operations, retaining the titles of president and CEO until his death. A 1965 graduate of the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, he was a member of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Greater New York Funeral Directors Association, and the Empire State Funeral Directors Association.
