ANTHONY MANIGAULT HURLEY of Columbia, SC died January 16, 2015. Until its closing, due to his retirement in 2014, he was the owner and operator of Manigault-Hurley Funeral Home, the oldest African-American funeral home in Columbia. His family also operated the Congaree Casket Company, which was founded by his wife's grandfather. It was known to employ more African Americans than any other black owned business in South Carolina. The printed funeral programs of his mortuary were known to be the first printed programs in South Carolina for funeral service. Among its many services, the casket company and the mortuary provided free meals for its employees and others in need. He was an alumnus of Palmer Memorial Institute and the Cincinnati College of Embalming.
