ALLEN “AL” L. JOHNSON

ALLEN “AL” L. JOHNSON of St. Joseph, MI formerly of Belding, MI died April 15, 2022 at the age of 86. He had a lifelong career in funeral service, starting in 1956 at Braun Funeral Home in Adrian. In 1961, Al began working at Florin Funeral Home in Benton Harbor. While living in St. Joseph, he worked from 1963-1984 at the Kerley and Starks Funeral Home and was named manager in 1968. In 1984 Al purchased the Charles M. Courser Funeral Home in Belding and sold the Johnson Funeral Home in 2000. He continued to work at the Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home until 2008. Al served on the St. Joseph Cemetery board in retirement. A member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association, he graduated from the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science in 1960 and became the first mortician in Berrien County to qualify for the procedure of eye enucleation after attending the Wayne State Medical School in 1975
